Who has to verify
- Every company director, including sole directors of small companies.
- People with significant control (PSCs).
When
| You are | Verify |
|---|---|
| A new director appointed since 18 November 2025 | Before you are appointed |
| An existing director | By the time the company files its next confirmation statement, within the 12-month transition |
| A person with significant control | By the due date shown against your name on the register |
How
Verification is free online through GOV.UK, or through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider. Once it is done you receive a personal code, which is used to confirm your identity on the company’s filings. The public register then shows a verified label, or the due date if verification is still outstanding.
If it is not done
Directors confirm their verification as part of the confirmation statement, so an unverified director holds up that filing, and failing to file it on time is an offence. The Insolvency Service has already brought prosecutions, so leaving it until the last week is a risk.
We check which of your directors and PSCs still need to verify, and file the confirmation statement once everyone has.
